Southwest Winds Quartet

Back by popular demand! The Southwest Winds Quartet is returning to the Witte for a Free Tuesday concert. Comprised of world-class musicians and their wind instruments including clarinet, oboe French horn and flutes, this ensemble is part of the United State Air Force Band of the West. This spring concert promises to entertain with music and stories about the pieces played – from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Free admission.

La Chili Queen y El Serrano

Join us in celebrating the one year anniversary of the Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center with a new Gallery Theater play, La Chili Queen y El Serrano, written by Marisela Barrera. The play is centered around Jovita, the host of her family’s chili stand in San Antonio’s Plaza de Armas (Military Plaza) in 1889. Lupe, her best customer, listens to Jovita tell stories that reveal the roots of San Antonio’s Chili Queens - women entrepreneurs who fed their community food and stories in public plazas. Taste the authentic enchiladas that the Chili Queens made famous and participate in games and activities from the 19th century. Included with museum general admission.

This summer, the Broadway Reach invites San Antonio residents and visitors to discover what our institutions have to offer with the Broadway Reach Community Weekend; a four-day celebration of culture, art, history, nature and more. From June 6 to 9, visitors will be able to explore the cultural and entertainment offerings of the Broadway Reach. Each member organization is presenting visitors with a family-friendly program. (Don’t miss the Witte’s Feathers, Fossils and Fun Dinosaur Family Day on June 8 and Sunday Jazz on June 9). Visit all venues to get your Broadway Reach passport stamped—available at participating institutions during the Broadway Reach Community Weekend—and enter a raffle to win an iPad Mini. A discounted joint ticketing pass will be available for purchase beginning June 1.
